Please Don’t!

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Exodus 34:26b
Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
O-bservation:
While Moses was on Mt. Sinai the second time, the Lord gave him additional instruction and commands. Included in these commands were instructions regarding the three feast day offerings that were to be brought to the Lord each year. Then, kind of out of nowhere, the Lord said, “Don’t cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
A-pplication:
There are some weird, ancient spiritualistic ideas that some commentators connect with this passage which would have been unlawful for Jewish people to involve themselves in. However, I believe this verse is much simpler than that. The idea I’ve always had is, “Don’t destroy the baby animal with that which was used to give it life.” To be boiled in its mother’s milk perhaps made the young goat tastier and more succulent to the eater, but it was abominable to consider. Now look at this unusual verse in light of the Word of God and how it has been given to bring LIFE to us (ref. Prov. 3:1-2 and John 6:63). David said, “God’s laws are like sweet honey to me” (Ps. 119:103). Yet how often have you heard or read the Word of God presented by someone as though it were a club used to bring death instead of life? Our only hope in this world is in the life-giving Word of Almighty God. It must always be presented as a life-giving hope for all humankind. If for any reason someone decides to use it to kill hopes, dreams, and visions in the lives of others, “Please Don’t!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I am so very grateful for Your Word. It has always brought me hope and life. May I always present it to others in that fashion. Amen
