Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
3 John 1:11a
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good.
O-bservation:
This is the last of three letters John the Beloved wrote to all “Followers of Jesus.” His main theme is that of loving others. In this passage, John says, “Don’t imitate what is evil, but what is good.” In other words, “Just Be Good.”
A-pplication:
I don’t think John is saying be perfect. NO! He’s simply saying when you see good being done by others, imitate what you see. “Just Be Good.” I know people who do not follow Jesus, but they are good people. By that I mean they are good-natured. They have a good attitude. They do good for anyone they come in contact with, and if you knew the people I’m speaking of, you would probably say, “Hey, those are really good guys.” Now, if people who don’t even follow Jesus can be good, why can’t loving Jesus people be good on a regular basis? Think about it. We’ve been forgiven. We’re filled with the Spirit of God. We walk in the light as Scripture tells us and we purposely shun evil. Those are all good things. When we see good, we must do good. “Just Be Good.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I am thinking about friends of mine who don’t follow You but who I enjoy being around because they are good people. If they can be good without being a follower of Jesus, then I know that today You will definitely help me to “Just Be Good.” Amen
