It’s Hard To Believe

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Daniel 5:11a

There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him.

O-bservation:

King Belshazzar of Babylon was there the night the lights went out in Nineveh. By that I mean his kingdom ended that night. He was a godless man. He threw one of the most infamous parties in history, and a man’s hand appeared and wrote a message that remained on the wall of the banquet hall, but the man’s hand didn’t. No one could interpret the words. His wife the queen came in and said, “There’s a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the gods on him who can interpret the words.”

A-pplication:

This is an amazing story, and to be quite honest “It’s Hard To Believe.” Nebuchadnezzar is one of the most well-known kings in history. Toward the end of his life he became so enamored in a good way with the prophet Daniel that some would argue Nebuchadnezzar converted to Daniel’s God (Read Daniel 4:34-37). But here is his grandson, Belshazzar, who is so far from where his forefather was spiritually that he didn’t even know the prophet Daniel who had been such a close associate to Nebuchadnezzar. When you look at history you will discover that it takes years for spiritual authority to gain a foothold in a nation, but only a generation to not only lose it but forget that it even existed. Here was one of the most famous Jewish Prophets ever, Daniel, who had found unusual favor in the house of an infidel. But within just a few years almost no one even remembered that he was still living. “It’s Hard To Believe.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

As I approach another day with You, help me to remember the great spiritual leaders who are still among us when I need spiritual counsel. Never let me approach an aged warrior of the faith as though he or she is washed up. May honor call me to them. Amen
