Here’s What The Lord Desires

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Isaiah 66:2b

These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.

In verse one of this chapter, the Lord spoke about His dwelling place. He said that heaven is His throne, and the earth is His footstool. So, what can you and I possibly make with our hands that can compare with what He has made for Himself? Then He looked at humankind and said, “Here is what I’m looking for in humans. I’m looking for someone who is humble and has an open heart to the things that concern Me and is so moved by My Word that he or she trembles upon hearing it.”

Down through the eons of time, humans have endeavored to get God’s attention. Most often, people search for a God they think they would worship. And so humans build vast armies and war machines, hoping to impress God. They then build magnificent empires of great human strength to get God’s attention. In time some, like King Solomon, accumulate such wealth that even they say “it’s all meaningless” while still trying desperately to impress the Lord. In this modern time in which we live, we have witnessed men and women come and go trying to get God’s attention. If everyone on the planet would just read Isaiah 66:2, they would finally get it. “Here’s What The Lord Desires.” He wants men and women who are humble, who approach Him with open hearts, and who so appreciate His Word that they tremble at His Word each time they read it.

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I’m approaching Your altar with a humble heart that longs to please You. I’m so open to doing whatever You desire me to do. And I have found that as I heed Your Word, my need for Your Word has caused me only to want You more. Amen

What is the profit motif behind everyone’s actions and words? Interest and financial gain or simply the desires of a humble heart trembling at Jesus’ Word? The answer to me is to check my own heart on the love for my God and for my neighbor!
