Excuses, Excuses

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Judges 6:15

“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

The Lord sent an angel to where Gideon lived and told him that he was to deliver his people from their oppressors. Immediately, Gideon began making excuses as to why that would be impossible for him and them. His main excuse was that his clan of Manasseh was the weakest of all the Israelite people, and he was the least in his family.

Whenever I think of the story of Gideon, my first thought is always “Excuses, Excuses.” Back in Joshua’s day, the clan of Manasseh complained that they needed more room because their clan was so large. Yet Joshua responded by saying, “You haven’t thrown the people out of the land that I gave you yet. You’re strong enough to do it, now do it. Once you do that, you’ll have plenty of room.” Now, years later, Gideon kept his clans narrative going. “We’re small, and my family is the least of the clan, there’s no way we can accomplish much.” But God showed Gideon that with just 300 men, he could bring down 135,000 enemy soldiers. Always remember, where God guides, He provides. It’s not how many are with you. It’s WHO is with You. God and me, or God and you, is always a majority. So whatever you do today, stop making “Excuses, Excuses!”

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for always helping me past the EXCUSES and taking responsibility for what You have put on my plate. I’m asking that You will give me a truckload of ideas to get me out of the trouble I face, and a mile deep inside of responsibility in order to weather the work that lies ahead. Amen
