A Positive Double Negative

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 Corinthians 12:1

Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.

St. Paul begins a discussion on the gifts of the Spirit with a double negative. He could have said, “I want you to be informed about these gifts.” Instead, he said, “I don’t want you to be uninformed.” Why is this important? I believe it was Paul’s way of really getting our attention going into the discussion. In some ways, it was “A Positive Double Negative.”

The Gifts of the Spirit are God’s spiritual tools for building His church. These nine gifts—Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Discernment, Tongues, and Interpretation of Tongues—are what helped birth the Church and continue to help grow the Church now, more than two thousand years later. Unfortunately, today, many are still uninformed concerning the “Gifts of the Spirit,” partly because of a lack on the part of spiritual leadership to teach on these gifts. However, for those who have embraced the nine “Gifts of the Spirit,” there is a never-ending reservoir of Holy Spirit power to do the impossible daily. Never has there ever been a time when we need “A Positive Double Negative” like now. Stay INFORMED!

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I’m embracing the “Gifts of the Spirit” more than ever. Every day I call upon the power of the Holy Spirit to lead me and guide me and empower me to do Your will. Amen
