A Chain Reminder

S-cripture:
Colossians 4:18
I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.
O-bservation:
This letter to the church in Colossae is one of the letters of Paul that is known as a prison epistle. It’s known by that title because Paul wrote some of the churches in Asia Minor from prison. He had been imprisoned for preaching Christ and shaking up the religious systems of his day. He closed this letter out by asking the people to remember the chains he was suffering with. It was “A Chain Reminder.”
A-pplication:
This particular letter helped the people who were new in their Christian faith in Colossae. But it has been a huge benefit to the entire church for over 2,000 years. There is a sad note however. Paul was in chains when he wrote it. Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon are the letters Paul wrote from prison. In Ephesians he asked in closing for the people to pray for him because he was “An ambassador in chains” (Eph. 6:20). In Philippians, Paul alludes to his chains by saying, “I have learned to be content no matter what the circumstances” (Phil. 4:11). In Philemon Paul notes his own imprisonment a number of times in the “one chapter” letter. But in Colossians he seems overwhelmed in the moment and asks that his friends would remember his dire situation. I don’t care how victorious any of us are, there are times in our life that we go through stuff ALONE. It’s in those times that all of us, at one time or another, have sent out “A Chain Reminder.” Let’s don’t forget each other. Today or any day.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
You released me from my “chains” long ago, but there are some burdens I am bearing today. Please don’t forget me Lord. Amen
