Praise Brings Peace

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Chronicles 20:30 And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.

O-bservation:

From the time Jehoshaphat took over as king of Judah from his Father Asa, there was victory in Judah. Scripture says the reason for the victory was, "The Lord was with him because he walked in the ways of his forefather David, and he didn't serve foreign gods but only the God of Israel." Yes there were issues in Jehoshaphat's life, but at the end of his life there was PEACE in Judah.

A-pplication:

Why the PEACE? Probably the best thing any of us can do is to leave things better than we found them. Whether it's a messy room we enter or a messy nation we someday lead, our goal should be: "Real leaders make things better not worse!" That was the pursuit of Jehoshaphat. His father, Asa, was a great example to him as a Father but failed at the end of his rulership in Judah. It must've been in Jehoshaphat’s mind and heart to improve things when he became King of Judah. On one occasion, the army of Judah had to face an impossible task of fighting the combined Moabite and Ammonite armies. These nations were bigger and stronger than Judah. But after receiving a word from the Lord, Jehoshaphat marched his army out against his enemies singing songs of PRAISE to God!! God turned Judah's enemies on themselves and Judah won. The next time you're up against a huge foe, begin to PRAISE the Lord. Why? Because ... "Praise Brings Peace." You will leave the place better than you found it after Praising.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I already know my plan of attack today. With Your help I will PRAISE my way, all the way to PEACE. Amen

Heart Broke Sound

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

O-bservation:

As the Lord looked down on the sin of His people, Judah, He talked about the heart of man being so deceitful that few can even begin to understand it.

A-pplication:

As "Followers Of Jesus," our daily prayer of thanksgiving should always be, "But for the grace of God there go I!" The brokenness of people around the world, and even in our own back yard, is beyond human cure. As a believer I hear a "Heart Broke Sound," as the song goes, emanating from people's lives every day. It's like the old commercial on TV with the senior lady calling, "I've fallen and I can't get up!" People are calling for help, "My heart is broken and I don't know how to repair it!" You and I who follow Jesus know that He is the answer. Only Jesus can fix that "Heart Broke Sound."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Oh how I thank You this AM for repairing my broken heart! Amen

Sometimes Hope Is Not Enough

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 8:15 We hoped for peace but no good has come, for a time of healing but there is only terror.

O-bservation:

The people of Judah found themselves so steeped in sin and rebellion that when they HOPED for peace, no good came.

A-pplication:

In this same chapter, Judah had become so vile that their phony religious leaders dressed evil to look as though it wasn't so bad. Jeremiah asks, "Are they afraid of their conduct?" Then he answers his own question by saying, "No they don't even know how to blush!" (vs. 12). Have you ever hoped against all hope that something good would come out of something bad? I know I have. And indeed there were a few folks left in Judah that believed and hoped against all hope that somehow PEACE would come out of all the lousy junk they'd sown. In this case, God would not let that happen. Because "Sometimes Hope Is Not Enough!" Hope must be mixed with humility and repentance when evil is the order of the day.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, With Your help this AM, I'll never lose HOPE. But please Lord, I'm ready for rebuke if need be to get me back on course. Amen

Start Over

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 4:3b “Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns.”

O-bservation:

The Lord let Judah know what it would take to come back after years of rebellion. God said, “Break up the hard places in your hearts (unplowed ground) and stop planting Good Stuff in the middle of Bad Stuff." In other words, "Start Over."

A-pplication:

The story involving the people of God (Judah) returning from their evil ways in that day never happened. Instead they carried on until destruction came upon them. In our own lives it's important that we keep breaking up the unplowed (hardened) ground in our lives. This metaphor is speaking of our hearts. There's always a temptation to go through the motions of a "Jesus Person" with no real humility. In time, the heart of us can become hardened. Whatever it takes for you or me to break up the unplowed places of our heart, we must do it! Even if we have to "Start Over!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I'm asking you to show me the hard places in my heart. I'm ready to start over. I want YOU! Amen

Singing And Praising

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Chronicles 20:22 As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

O-bservation:

On this occasion, King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah were seriously outnumbered. After the nation came together to pray, it was determined that they should face their enemies "Singing and Praising" the Lord. Then God defeated all of their enemies while basking in the "Singing and Praising" of His people.

A-pplication:

Instead of worrying about tomorrow, or the enemies that lie waiting for you, wouldn't it be better to be found "Singing and Praising" Jesus instead? There is no end to the goodness and grace and power of our great God. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He has not changed. The same God that defeated Jehoshaphat's enemies back then is the same God we serve today. I suggest you face your challenge today "Singing and Praising" the Lord.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I have decided that I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever! Amen
