Jesus Is Our Encourager

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Thessalonians 2:16,17 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

O-bservation:

This was Paul’s second letter to the young church he planted at Thessalonica, and it was filled with encouragement. He said that Jesus had been his greatest encourager and that he was now praying and prophesying over them that they would experience the same encouragement from Jesus that he himself had known.

A-pplication:

I can't tell you how many times I have been let down by a friend or close associate who I thought would give me a word of encouragement. Has that ever happened to you? Perhaps you've gone the extra mile at work or in someone's behalf. Instead of blessing you with a kind word of encouragement, they say something that causes you to believe they're questioning your motives. Instead of leaving blessed, you feel discouraged. I know, I’ve been there. However, when everyone else lets you down ... "Jesus Is Our Encourager!" And He's always there. He's not our encourager just for today, or a given special event, he's there ALL THE TIME! King David said, "But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the one who lifts my head high" (Ps. 3:3). "Jesus Is Our Encourager!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm thankful that when everyone else walks out ... You stay right beside me! You really are "My Encourager!" I'm Blessed. Amen

He’s Always With YOU!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 28:20b “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

O-bservation:

Jesus spoke these words shortly before He ascended back into heaven and unto his Father. He told His disciples that He wanted them to go into all the world and preach the gospel to everyone. He told them they could do it because all authority had been given unto Him, and not to worry because ... "He Would Always Be With Them."

A-pplication:

This directive was not only for Jesus' Disciples at that time, it is for EVERY Disciple for ALL time. Jesus concluded by saying, "I will always be with you until the end of the age." That means Right Now and whatever future there is left before the return of Christ. This passage reminds me of Matthew 10, where Jesus sent His Disciples out to preach. In that chapter, Jesus minimized anything and everything His Disciples might need for their journey. Why? Because Jesus was always impressing upon his "Followers" that ... HE alone (Jesus) ... is enough! So, do everything along your journey to LIGHTEN your load instead of ADDING to your load. For instance: MONEY? Cut Back! BELONGINGS? Cut Back! INCREASING RESPONSIBILITY? Cut Back! OPINIONS? Cut Back! Which brings us to the MISSION that lies before YOU ... "GO FOR IT!" Because ... "He's Always With YOU!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm realizing more and more, everyday, that what I really need more of is … YOU. I know You're with me. Amen

Take Care Of Yourself

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 24:4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you."

O-bservation:

Jesus was sitting on the "Mount of Olives" with His disciples, and in referencing the temple Jesus told them that its future destruction was certain. They asked Him when this would happen, and Jesus began His lengthy answer by saying, "Be careful that no one deceives you!"

A-pplication:

All of us, at one time or another, have fallen prey to the trickery of a Con-Man or Woman. Jesus was speaking here of "False Christs" who would arrive on the scene at the "End Of The Age" to try and get folks like us to buy into their deception. But in a more general sense, Jesus warns all of us to "Take Care Of Yourself!" Be on guard! It's true that all of us who are willing to "Follow Jesus Wholeheartedly" are given AWARENESS. You could call it a "Sixth Sense." The Bible would label it as DISCERNMENT. Discernment is the ability to detect insincerity in another person. The old adage, "Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me" works here. However, if you "Take Care Of Yourself" through personal devotion (prayer and Bible study) you don't have to be FOOLED the First Time. Since Jesus has your back, "Take Care Of Yourself!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I thank You today that You're watching out for me. Because You are, I know You want me to watch out for me too. Help me today to "Take Care Of Myself." Amen

Jesus The Son Of …?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 22:45 “If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”

O-bservation:

Earlier in the text, Jesus asked His disciples what do you think of the Messiah? Whose son is he? (v. 42a). The disciples answered that He, Jesus, was the son of David (v. 42b), and this is technically true, but then Jesus referenced Psalm 110:11, where King David called the Messiah Lord. Jesus asked the disciples, "How could David's Lord be his own boy?"

A-pplication:

You could say that Jesus was offering His disciples a "Trick Question," but Jesus wasn't like that. He only answered "Trick Questions" from the Pharisees, and He did it with wisdom and dignity. No, the question was about how the disciples viewed Jesus. By asking His disciples whose son He (Jesus) was, they immediately showed their colors. You're the Son of David they said, proving that they still weren't inclined to acknowledge Him as Divine. So yes, in a human sense Jesus biologically had DNA connected to King David, but He had the genes of Almighty God. He is the Son of God and He IS God. Our challenge is to continually approach Him as God. Because when we approach Jesus as God there are no limitations on the miracles that can be wrought through our prayer. And the faith that arises when we pray changes everything. When I pray to Jesus I'm not just looking for solace, instead I'm looking to see that mountain MOVE. Truly, "Jesus IS The Son of God!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I know You are a friend who sticks closer than a brother. I also know that because You are my friend You care about my sorrows. However, because You are God ... I know that Mountain is preparing to MOVE! Amen

Because … They Don’t All Know

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 21:10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

O-bservation:

This is a remarkable passage. Jesus entered into Jerusalem at the end of His 3 1/2 years of ministry and most people didn't know "Who He Was." The reason this was remarkable is because from where I sit after being raised in Christianity, I would have thought that everyone in Jerusalem knew who Jesus was. I mean He had healed so many in that city. He had sometimes taught daily in the Synagogue. He was a pain in the back to the Pharisees in that city. But the truth is, not everyone knew who Jesus was. And so they asked ... "Who is He?"

A-pplication:

We must never assume that all of our world, our country, our state, or most of all our city has heard the "Good News." There are millions around the world who have never heard of Jesus. This fact is ON ALL Christians. All of us must band together and carry our fair share of "The Load." "The Load" I'm referring to is the task of delivering the "Good News" about Jesus to people locally and around the world. This ongoing mission, which all true "Followers of Jesus" are engaged in, must be dedicated to bringing down the walls of sin and rebellion that are keeping precious souls separated from Jesus. We must tell the world about Jesus, because ... "They Don't All Know!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, You told us that if we followed You, You would make us "Fishers of Men." I'm amazed that so many people just don't know who Jesus is, much less where my church is. Please bless me while I fish today. Amen
