The Grind

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Matthew 15:8 These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

O-bservation:

Jesus quoted the words of Isaiah the Prophet (Is. 29:13) when He spoke of the Pharisees. He said, "These law keepers only give Me lip service, but their hearts are not near where I am."

A-pplication:

Every good Jewish young man was to have memorized the 5 books of the Torah by the age of 13. Jesus was no exception. But His ability to recall Old Testament prophecies to be applied to the era in which He lived was unparalleled. The Pharisees could spit out the Old Testament with the best law-abiding citizens on the planet, however their application of the Prophecies, Laws, and Teachings of that material was lousy. There was "No Bend" in any of it whatsoever. There were NO Exceptions, Period. Here's the problem, when Grace is not present in your faith, keeping the law is better known as ... "The Grind." There's no "relationship with God factor." And, there's no "heart motivation to please the Lord factor." Instead it's really only "Lip Service," where Laws and To Do Lists are promoted over Love, the Golden Rule, and a Passion for the Lord. In other words ... the individual is now going through ... "The Grind," while that same person's HEART is 1,000,000 miles away from Jesus. Please pray it never happens to you. "The Grind," that is.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Early this AM, I am aware of Your Love and Care for me. I know of Your sacrifice on my behalf. I don't want this to be a "One Way" relationship. I threw "The Grind" out a long time ago. My HEART is with You! Amen

Salvation Is Always On God’s Heart

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezekiel 18:21 But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.

O-bservation:

Here the Prophet Ezekiel relates the words of the Almighty, letting the people in that day know that no matter what they had done salvation was still possible.

A-pplication:

We don't always think of the Old Testament as being a place of salvation for lost souls. Certainly we know that God considered the people of Israel His beloved people, and He wanted their lives to reflect His grace, love, and mercy as a picture of His unending love. But in this verse we see even more. We see a God who longs  for His own people, who have gone astray, to come back to Him so they can have eternal life. "Will Not Die" did not mean that they would never die on earth, rather it meant that they would have eternal life. That's in the Old Testament! How much more do we know because of the sacrificial death of Jesus? The grace of God is proof that "Salvation Is Always On God’s Heart!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I am reminded that I must always be grateful for my eternal salvation! Amen

Grace Talk With Salt Added

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

O-bservation:

The way a "Follower of Jesus" is to converse with others is in a graceful manner, with verbal salt added to the discussion so that it stays interesting and compelling.

A-pplication:

Throughout this letter, the Apostle has given necessary instruction for the life of the believer. If we follow the instructions, it stands to reason that we will become faith-filled people who are intellectually engaged. That being said, all of us are ready for discussions with our fellow humans that stir them to think. The way that is accomplished is through graciousness in our speech. We build each other up, we bless, we honor, and we love through our words. It is also true that there must be salt in our words. An unexpected sting always wakes a conversation up. Yet it is the sting that helps preserve the grace that has been laid. Make sure your conversations always feature, "Grace Talk With Salt Added."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I realize this AM that communication is the key to winning in every category. Help mine to feature Grace and Salt. Amen

Only Fear Can Stop You

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 19:9 There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

O-bservation:

Elijah had destroyed the Prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel and prayed to the Lord for rain. AND it Rained!! Then Jezebel threatened to kill Elijah within twenty-four hours when she heard what he had done. Upon hearing her threat, Elijah wilted with FEAR and ran for more than forty days to a cave in Horeb. That's when God asked him, "What are you doing here Elijah?"

A-pplication:

When God asked Elijah what he was doing in Horeb, He was in effect saying, “Elijah your time is up.” The one thing the Lord will not tolerate in an aged leader is FEAR. It's one thing to be alarmed as a young person who hasn't known the Lord for very long. However, for a seasoned veteran to run away in fear … the Lord lovingly looked for someone new to use. Elijah immediately sought out Elisha and called him into service. Not long after, Elijah was taken up in a fiery chariot to heaven. Yes, Elijah finished victoriously by the grace of God, but in the process he learned "Only FEAR Can Stop You."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, May FAITH be my portion all the days of my life! Amen

Absolutely Not!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Romans 6:2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

O-bservation:

In the previous verse St. Paul had asked the question, “Shall we keep on sinning so that grace may be even greater in our lives?” Then he said, "Absolutely Not!"

A-pplication:

Paul's argument still stands today. Jesus has saved us. Consequently, we have died to sin. If we have died to sin how can we live in it any longer? Now make sure you understand, he isn't saying we'll never make a mistake or sin again. What he is saying is we have died to that way of living. When we slip and fall it feels unnatural to us. There is an immediate conviction that comes over us and we say to ourselves, "This isn't me!" So think about it this AM, do you have a desire to live in that old lifestyle just so you can say, "Grace is working in me?" I think I can hear you say ... "Absolutely Not!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM all I want to say is, "Thank You Lord, For Saving My Soul!" Amen
