There’s No Need To Run

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Isaiah 52:12 But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

O-bservation:

The first time Israel exited Egypt it was in haste! But here the Lord speaks through His prophet Isaiah and says that Israel will leave Babylon back for Israel in peace. He says that God will go before them and behind them to bring them home safely.

A-pplication:

Perhaps like Israel you have been held against your will in a barren place. Oh you've had food to eat and a roof over your head, but your soul is barren. Today the Lord is saying, "I will deliver you out of this desolate place of existence you've been experiencing if you will let Me." And just like this story tells us, Jesus will go before you and behind you to guard you as you enter into more friendly confines. Maybe you have experienced such times of trouble in the past you've had to run for your survival. But today, "There's No Need To Run." The Lord is with you right now. He's going before you and behind you. You are surrounded by the love and protection of Jesus. Be assured that He's GOT YOU!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I'm at peace because You've got me. Amen

Before Jesus

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

O-bservation:

The Lord spoke these words having to do with the heart of every man and woman through the great prophet Jeremiah. He said that the place in our lives where our decisions are made, the Heart, is so desperately wicked that it is beyond understanding.

A-pplication:

Throughout my life as a minister of the gospel, I’ve preached on this verse many times. Yet, whenever I’ve preached on it, I’ve preached on it with this prevailing thought:  “Before Jesus.” You see, this is the Old Testament. This is spoken from our God, who lived with a broken heart because of the constant inconsistencies and waywardness of His people because of their fickle, spiritually adolescent, and rebellious hearts. Yet, all of this was Before Jesus. Jesus changed everything when He came and died and resurrected for our sins, and He continues to change everything today if we let Him. Our hearts are desperately wicked when separated from Jesus. But remember that’s, Before Jesus. Once we yield our hearts to Jesus, all things are made new, and all things become possible.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so grateful that You came and sacrificed Your life for my wayward and rebellious heart. Because You came, my heart now has to bow to Your love. Amen

Have You Ever Felt Like That Before?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 123:4
We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.

O-bservation:

The Psalmist, in his desperation, cried to God to have mercy on him and his people. He said that those who opposed them had ridiculed them to no end, and had shown them great contempt. His blame was directed at the proud and arrogant among them.

A-pplication:

“Have You Ever Felt Like That Before?” Here you are, doing your absolute best to stay the course in the midst of your own storm, and instead of encouragement you’re ridiculed and looked down upon by self-righteous, arrogant people. If not, that’s exactly what the Psalmist was experiencing. Often, for those who follow Jesus, we are pressed to stand between the fray. We hold the hands of polarized folks and take the heat from both sides while trying to steady the ship. The eternal benefits of such willingness are too numerous to discuss in this short devo; however, I can tell you it’s worth it. The scripture reminds us when focusing on Jesus, “For the JOY set before him he endured the cross (Heb. 12:2b). The victory is out there for you, but before you get there you will face some cross experiences. “Have You Ever Felt Like That Before?”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m ready again today. I’m headed for the JOY, but there are some arrogant and proud accusers in my path. With Your help, I’ll make it through. Amen
