In Case You Have An Important Meeting Today

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Nehemiah 1:11b Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.

O-bservation:

The servant of the Lord who was making this request was Nehemiah. He was King Artaxerxes’ cupbearer and he had a need to lead a group of Jewish people, who were exiled in Babylon, back to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall. He was preparing to ask Artaxerxes for permission that day, but first stopped and asked the Lord to give him success and favor with the man he would speak to.

A-pplication:

“In Case You Have An Important Meeting Today,” why not first do what Nehemiah did. In preparation for his meeting with the king, he first had a meeting with HIS KING. He asked the Lord for success and favor before he talked to the king. Any important meeting with earthlings needs to be prefaced with a prayer meeting with OUR KING. Never mistake emphasizing the temporal over the eternal. When you talk to Jesus FIRST ... The WALL will get built before you know it.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Before any of my important meetings today, I need Your favor to grant me the success I need. Amen

The Heart Of The King Is In The Hand Of The Lord

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezra 7:26
Whoever does not obey the law of your God and the law of the king must surely be punished by death, banishment, confiscation of property, or imprisonment.

O-bservation:

These were the words of King Artaxerxes. He was the third in a line of three Persian kings who ruled Babylon after the Babylonian empire had been destroyed. He sent Ezra, the priest of Israel, back upon the completion of the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. But he didn’t just send him back home; he sent him back home with associates and money and power. He sent Ezra back home to Jerusalem to reinstitute the faith and way of approaching God that was the original Jewish way of doing faith. He said anyone who fails to fall into line with the teaching of the God of Israel would suffer complete destruction.

A-pplication:

This was a Persian king who was making Israel completely turn back to their faith. He respected the God of Israel, but we know that he never became a Jew. We have no indication that he embraced the faith the people of God embraced. What we do know is that at that time in history, he was all-powerful in the people’s eyes. But never forget that in the words of the wise man Solomon, “The Heart Of The King Is In The Hand Of The Lord.” You can respect your political leader, and you should, but always remember, he or she is never ever in complete control. Just like King Artaxerxes of old, when you least expect it, that leader may issue a decree that promotes the work of the Lord where you live. Why? Because “The Heart Of The King Is In The Hand Of The Lord.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, I’m reminded that at any given moment You are able to step in and overrule any authority here on earth. Because no matter how powerful any earthly human may be, it’s still true that “The Heart Of The King Is In The Hand Of The Lord.” Amen

Start With A Good Cry

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Nehemiah 1:4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

O-bservation:

These are the words of Nehemiah, the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, the ruler of the land. Nehemiah had just heard that the Jewish exiles who had been sent back to Jerusalem were living in great peril. He wept, and begged God for help for his people.

A-pplication:

The King noticed that Nehemiah was downcast and asked him about it. Nehemiah told Artaxerxes that his people, who had been sent back, were living in a place where the walls surrounding Jerusalem had been burnt down and there was no safety to be had. The King sent he and a contingent of helpers, plus cash, back to Jerusalem so Nehemiah could rebuild the wall. In time it all happened. However, it's good to know that the end victory started as a broken cry for help before the Lord. The next time you find yourself in the middle of an impossible situation where only God can intervene in your behalf, remember to, "Start With A Good Cry!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I'm reminded that some of the greatest miracles You performed for me began with an emotional, broken cry to You. Please keep me in a place where I always depend on You! Amen
