Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Esther 3:2
All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor.
O-bservation:
Here was another Jewish man who refused to bow down to any man. The wicked Haman, the right-hand administrator to King Xerxes of Persia, developed a deep bitterness towards Mordecai, another of the king’s helpers who was a Jew. He was upset because Mordecai refused to bow down to him when he would pass through the king’s gate. He had the king sign an edict against the Jewish people to have them destroyed, including his nemesis Mordecai. It didn’t change a thing concerning Mordecai’s stance towards Haman, which was simply, “I Won’t Bow Down!”
A-pplication:
The righteous Jewish people have always lived by the Ten Commandments’ standard, which tells them, and us, not to bow down to any other god or graven image or human besides our great God Almighty. When the king elevated Haman, Haman wanted each community member to pay him homage by bowing down to him. Mordecai said by his actions, “I Won’t Bow Down!” Today many false gods are vying for our attention. We are pulled in many directions that would have us compromise our faith and moral principles. What will you do? The times have changed, but the issues appear to be the same old temptations from hell itself. I know what I’m going to do. “I Won’t Bow Down!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
It is my great joy and honor to bow down only to you. You alone are my high priest, Savior, and Lord. I need no other false representation of You because I have You! I am Yours now and forever! Amen
