Why Trust In Man? Put Your Trust In God
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Isaiah 2:22
Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?
O-bservation:
Many theologians agree that this verse does not really belong here. It isn’t attached to anything contextually, and it is said that it was to be used in the margins. But since it made the canon of Holy Scripture, it should be taken as a stand-alone statement by the prophet. A man has only breath in his nostrils and is physically terminal at birth. So “Why Trust In Man? Put Your Trust In God.”
A-pplication:
Isaiah was perhaps the most radical of all the Old Testament prophets. He was fearless. He once walked naked through the streets for three years prophesying against Egypt and Ethiopia! He did this because God told him to. A prophet such as Isaiah had little trouble rejecting man and his wisdom. Isaiah was all about the word of the Lord and pleasing our Lord. After writing in this chapter concerning the impending “Day Of The Lord,” Isaiah pens a stand-alone verse and commands his listeners to stop trusting in mere mortals. That would be people like you and me. He said, in effect, “They’re only here today and gone tomorrow.” Stop having such confidence in people who are all destined to die eventually, and no one knows the day or the hour this will happen for anyone. I was recently in a gathering, and sitting near me was a worldwide figure. Throughout the event, there seemed to be more attention given to the man in the stands than the ones who were on the stage. I thought to myself, “What’s the big deal? In the course of history, this man will one day pass away and return to the earth.” All eyes in the arena seemed to gravitate towards him. Our eyes and our attention and all our hopes should only gravitate to Jesus. I’ll say it again, “Why Trust In Man? Put Your Trust In God!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I’ve got my eyes turned in your direction. I’m not taking my mind or my eyes off of You today, my Lord. All of my trust is in You Lord. Amen
