Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Jeremiah 26:14
As for me, I am in your hands; do with me whatever you think is good and right.
O-bservation:
God had called Jeremiah, His prophet, to prophesy against the house of Judah. The other prophets who heard him threatened to kill him because they had been prophesying peace and prosperity. Jeremiah told the local officials, “I’m only preaching what God told me to, so do to me whatever you think is right, I’m in your hands.”
A-pplication:
There are two points I want to make. First, Jeremiah was in the Lord’s hands, but he wanted the city officials to think they had more power than they did. Remember, Jesus told His disciples that He wanted them to be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves (Mt. 10:16). Second, “We’re Only His Messengers.” That’s right, it’s not us or a denomination we’re representing. Indeed we are representing the “King of Kings.” So really Jeremiah meant everything he said, “You can do with me what you like, in fact go ahead, BUT, I will only represent the best interests of my God who has called me.” We must continually ask ourselves the question, “Who do I represent?” If we are truly and completely committed to Jesus, then all we can say is, “We’re Only His Messengers.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Today, I realize at this age that I have limited influence and some amount of respect from others. However, it’s only because “I’m really just Your messenger.” Amen
