The Leader Always Takes The Hit

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Exodus 5:21

And they said, “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

O-bservation:

These are the words of the Israeli supervisors who led their people in making bricks for the Pharaoh and the Egyptians. The words were directed to Moses and Aaron, who were pleading for the cause of their fellow Israelites at God’s command. Pharaoh had grown weary of Moses in his face and so told the Israeli supervisors that the people would have to make the same amount of bricks each day but would have to find their own straw to make the bricks with. Then they beat the Israeli supervisors before they sent them back to tell their people. Before they talked to their fellow Israeli slaves, they went to Moses and Aaron and asked God to judge Moses and Aaron for trying to get them out of bondage.

A-pplication:

This story always leaves me shaking my head. Here Moses and his brother were called by God to confront the most powerful man in the world at that time, to release God’s people from their slavery. Yet, when he (Pharaoh) rebuffed them, the Israelites took the side of their oppressor instead of the side of their deliverer. Yes, Moses and Aaron were eventually successful, but in the meantime, please remember, “The Leader Always Takes The Hit!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Today I’m asking you to give grace to any of your leaders who may be reading this post. Comfort them today, my Lord. Remind them that they, indeed, have been called by you to speak on your behalf. Amen
