The LAMENT Of A Friend

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Chronicles 35:25

Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah, and to this day all the male and female singers commemorate Josiah in the laments. These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the Laments.

O-bservation:

Josiah was only eight years old when he began his 31-year reign in Judah. Thirteen years into his rule, Jeremiah became the Prophet of the Lord. Think about the power of a righteous ruler taking his lead from a man of God like Jeremiah. Josiah was killed in battle, and Jeremiah wrote the Book of Lamentations partly over his own grieving after his friend and leader, Josiah.

A-pplication:

The Bible tells us that Josiah, for a brief period of time, healed the nation of Judah. He tore down all of the heathen places of worship and reinstituted the Passover feast and offerings. At the age of 21, his friend and co-laborer Jeremiah became the Prophet of his day. These two tore up the devil for another 18 years! Then Josiah died in the battle against Egypt. There are many reasons why Jeremiah is called the “Weeping Prophet,” and indeed this loss is one of those reasons.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m thinking this AM of my own dear friends. Keep them, I pray, in the palm of Your hand. Amen
