The Arm of the Flesh

S. O. A. P

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Chronicles 32:8

With him is only “The Arm of the Flesh,” but with us is the Lord our God to help us and fight our battles.

O-bservation:

These are the words of King Hezekiah, the king of Judah, after the Assyrian King Sennacherib had berated the people of Judah and ridiculed The Lord God of Israel. Hezekiah gathered the people of Judah together with his military officers in the city square and said … “Be courageous don’t be afraid of the Assyrian king and his vast army, for ONE greater than he is fighting for us. He relies on the arm of the flesh but we rely on the God of Israel who fights for us.” In the night, God sent an angel and destroyed 185,000 Assyrians soldiers. Sennacherib ran to his temple in Nineveh and was praying to his own gods when his sons entered into the temple and killed him with a sword. So much for … “The Arm of the Flesh.”

A-pplication:

I hear it so often, “I have to work better strategy,” or “I have to get enough people of means to support my dream,” or “I’m hoping my investments will yield a windfall this year.” All of these are good, however they all rely on “The Arm of the Flesh.” There are other parts of the world right now where people of Judeo-Christian Faith can’t really rely on “The Arm of the Flesh.” They really need the power of God in order to keep going. There is coming a day very soon when every “Follower of Jesus” will have to decide between “The Arm of the Flesh” and the ONE who’s with us, who is even greater than those with them.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for the wonderful place in which I live. Thank You that because of my geographical location I have been able to develop strategies of human success on this side of heaven. But may I never rely on “The Arm of the Flesh,” more than the ONE who is in me who is greater than those who are with them. Amen
