A Taste For God’s Word

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezekiel 3:3

Then he said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.

O-bservation:

After the Lord called Ezekiel to be His Prophet, He set before him a scroll filled with His WORD. Ezekiel said that on both sides of the “Word of God” were words of lament, mourning and woe. For most of us, that would spell “Bad News.” But when Ezekiel ate it ALL, it tasted like “sweet honey” in his mouth.

A-pplication:

The picture I see is a picture of a man or woman of God ingesting the WHOLE “Word of God.” ALL of it! The purpose of a “Follower of Jesus” ingesting ALL of “God’s Word” is that that person will LIVE OUT all of the Word. Not just the Happy Parts, but the Sad Parts too. Not just the Hopeful Parts, but the Despairing Parts too. Not just the Resurrection Parts. but the Death and Burial Parts too! When a “Follower of Jesus” is willing to take it ALL in, it’s like tasting “Sweet Honey” every time “God’s Word” is opened. Because the individual parts make much better sense in light of the WHOLE. It’s when a person tries to build their entire life on a couple of passages of Scripture that Bitterness, Confusion, and Contradiction can set in. Ezekiel ingested the entire scroll. When he did, it tasted Sweet like Honey. No wonder he developed… “A Taste For God’s Word!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Even King David said the taste of Your words in my mouth is Sweeter than the Honeycomb. I want all of Your word in me. Amen
