His Own

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Samuel 12:22

For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own.

O-bservation:

This was part of the farewell speech given by the Prophet Samuel to the People of Israel. In this speech, he reaffirms the fact that God will never reject the Israelites, because He is pleased to call them "His Own."

A-pplication:

Like the Israelites of old, we "Followers of Jesus," better known as "The Church," have been grafted into this same promise God gave them. This of course happened through the marvelous sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross and His physical resurrection from the grave three days later. Because of this indescribable gift, God is pleased to call us "His Own." Oh yes, we have all failed. We have all sinned and come up short of God's glory. But in spite of all of our failures, mess-ups, rebellions, stupid mistakes, and even "Oops I did it agains," God Still Loves Us! And even though His heart breaks like any father of a wayward child, at the end of the day our Father in heaven is pleased to call us ... "His Own!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I am amazed You still love me. After all my failures You still care for me and call me "Your Own." I'm just amazed. Amen

This Father’s Great Joy

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

O-bservation:

John the Beloved is speaking of his disciples, who have followed Christ because of his influence over their lives. He calls them his children when he says, “My greatest joy as a father is when you walk in accordance with the truth.”

A-pplication:

As great a blessing as this wonderful Apostle was to the Body of Christ, I believe the Lord has blessed me and others in a greater way than John ever knew. I know that sounds preposterous and yet hear me out. Many leaders are a father or mother in two ways. They have a Spiritual Calling as a pastor. The people they serve, they do so in such a way that is fatherly or motherly in nature, taking care of those around them. But they also have biological children. They are their first calling. It has brought me the greatest joy imaginable to see my sons follow the truth, and to see the people I serve as a pastor also follow the truth. Dear John had no biological children that history records, so you can understand my double joy. It is “This Fathers Great Joy.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You this AM that You have helped me be a father to biological sons and a father to people who have allowed me to serve them as their pastor. I am doubly blessed because of YOU! Amen

“My, How Things Have Changed”

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Exodus 21:17 Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.

O-bservation:

After the Lord gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, Moses returned into a dark cloud to encounter the presence of the Lord. While there, God gave him even more laws for the people of Israel. This law was drastic in comparison to how things are done today. God said if a child curses their parents, they must be put to death!

A-pplication:

Wow! I say that because today, it’s almost nothing for a child in my country to curse their parents. The idea of respect has been thrown out of the window, so to speak. I’ve been told what some parents have been through at the hands of their children, and I’m appalled. When respect in the home is at an all-time low, no wonder the law is in such peril in our cities. In Moses’ day, a child would be put to death for cursing their parent. But, of course, we’re grateful for the grace of God through Jesus Christ. I wouldn’t for a minute vote for that law today. But when you see what the people of God used to hold up in Moses' day, you can only say, “My How Things Have Changed.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m not hoping for death to children who disrespect their parents at this present age. However, I am asking for drastic measures from heaven to help us bring love and respect for parents back to our homes. Only You can help us now. Amen

A Revival Of The Family

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Malachi 4:6 "He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction."

O-bservation:

Malachi was the last prophet to prophesy in the Old Testament. Malachi made his prophecies somewhere around BC 460. We know his prophecies occurred just a bit after Ezra and Nehemiah had done their work for the Lord. Even though we know that Israel experienced revival to a degree during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, it wasn’t complete, and we see Malachi’s warning. He said if there isn’t “A Revival Of The Family” soon, destruction is coming.

A-pplication:

In many ways, the revival Malachi was speaking about never came about. After this prophecy was made, there were 400 years of silence from God in heaven to the people on earth. I’m telling you, that sounds like complete destruction to me. The next time we hear the Lord speak in Scripture, it’s through an angel to Mary. Today, once again, the Lord is moving throughout the globe to see if young people will love their parents and if parents will love their children as they should. The more we see families breaking apart, the more one feels that destruction is waiting at the door. So join me in prayer today and never stop asking that we would see “A Revival Of The Family.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM, I’m moved with compassion to pray and seek Your face as never before for “A Revival Of The Family.” I remember as a young man during the days of the Jesus Movement when thousands and thousands of young adults came to Christ and families were healed. Please, Lord, do it again! Amen

Impress Them On Your Children

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Deuteronomy 6:6-7a These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.

O-bservation:

Moses had just promoted the Ten Commandments to the Children of Israel. And then there continued to be words from God to the people as to what these laws would mean to future generations. Moses told the people these laws are to be continually on your hearts AND you must “Impress Them on Your Children.”

A-pplication:

Everywhere I go, people ask me about my children. The key question they ask, knowing that I am in the ministry, is how did you and your wife lead your sons to the Lord and into the work of the Lord. I can never fully, in a detailed way, describe what we did with “How To Do It, Daily Lists,” but I can tell you this: the Word of God was the centerpiece of our home. The love of Jesus and the need for people to be willing to tell people about Jesus was everything. The grace of God was lived out in our home as we saw God work miracles. The two older boys saw the Lord raise their little brother Graham up from being lifeless. God’s Word, God’s Grace, and God’s Miracles left our sons impressed with Jesus. My wife and I don’t know much, but we do know that the words and miracles of Jesus never fail. “Impress Them on Your Children!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I ask that You allow Robyn and me to assist our grown children in Impressing the Words and Acts of Jesus on our Grandchildren. Amen
