Stupid Is As Stupid Does

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Proverbs 12:1

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.

O-bservation:

This is such a simple and hard statement by such a brilliant and wise man. King Solomon said, “If you love being disciplined you will love learning. However, if you reject discipline wholeheartedly you’re STUPID!”

A-pplication:

It probably wasn’t Forrest Gump who first coined the phrase “Stupid Is As Stupid Does!” Probably it was King Solomon. It’s just that most of us would have loved for him to have said it in a more scholarly way, surrounded with intense wisdom. But alas, he did not. He simply says if you don’t want to be disciplined you’re a stupid person. The word STUPID means, “Slow of mind.” Think of people who react violently to discipline, usually they’re not too bright. Another definition of STUPID means, “To respond as though drunk.” Today students in public schools who honor their teachers and administrators are looked down upon by other students who hate being told what to do. Here’s the question, how is that working out for the person who hates discipline? Well, if a person can’t take direction, they will have a hard time finding work. If they do find work it will be something menial that doesn’t pay much. Consequently, the person who hates discipline is setting themselves up for a life of poverty! “Stupid Is as Stupid Does!” As I write this AM Devo, I can’t wait to leave my house in order to say “Yes Sir,” to the first guy who tells me what to do. I love knowledge and discipline!!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You this AM that my parents helped me to have a willing heart. Thank You for teaching me knowledge through Your discipline. Amen
