Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 Corinthians 13:5a
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.
O-bservation:
St. Paul finished his second, and final, letter to the young Corinthian Church by reminding them that no one will live this life for them. The only one they could truly count on was Jesus. So as often as possible, they were to reevaluate their life in Christ. He said TEST yourselves. EXAMINE yourselves to see if you’re still living by faith. He was directing them to take a spiritual EKG.
A-pplication:
There is no way that our Lord and Savior ever established life to be lived as a robot. For we humans, life is always about daily and hourly and minute-by-minute choices. It’s a game of fluidity, and unless there is a constant personal examination of our SPIRITUAL condition, our flesh and the desires of this world will begin to dominate. The way we are built up in faith is through daily devotions in prayer and in God’s Word. We are also built up by spending time with people of a similar faith experience, and slowly but surely we grow in Jesus. I’m sure you know someone who started strong with Jesus, but for some reason they thought that life in Christ was just a simple, one-time confession of faith at an altar. But not long after, they were in the same trouble they were in prior to their confession. Once again, no one controls any of us unless we give them control. Whether that’s people, or business, or personal dreams, or JESUS. So, if you’re a full-on “Jesus Follower” today, you have no other option than to TEST yourself because, “It’s Always Time For A Spiritual EKG!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I’m reminded of the words of King David when he asked You, “Search me today Lord, and see if there is any wicked way in me.” That’s the way I feel. I want You in full control of my life! Amen
