Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Ecclesiastes 7:4
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.
O-bservation:
The writer of Ecclesiastes states that WISE people spend their time in places that are filled with SORROW. Conversely the FOOLISH spend their time in places looking for PLEASURE.
A-pplication:
This is a very disturbing passage of scripture written by one we believe to be extremely wise. For one reason, I’m writing this AM Devo looking for some PLEASURE myself. It’s obvious as we read the entire Word of God that God doesn’t want us to live an exclusive life of SORROW, nor does He call us to an exclusive life of PLEASURE. A healthy balance helps make us into healthy, whole individuals. The passage in question simply states that wise people spend more time in places of Sorrow than they do in places of Pleasure. Sorrow reminds us that we won’t be here forever. Those who mourn are usually people who have lost someone dear. When you’re around Sorrow, it puts life in perspective. It calls us to put off the Foolish and prepare ourselves for the Eternal. The FOOLISH on the other hand live to eat, drink, and be merry. Death is not taken seriously, which means that eternity is simply not in their thinking. BUT … How FOOLISH is that? It’s time to get “Sorrow And Pleasure” in their right place. We won’t be here forever.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m ready for WISDOM! Keep me reminded I pray, that I won’t be here forever and to stay ready for Eternity, which is in front of me. Amen
