Leadership Or Followership?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Luke 5:11

So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

O-bservation:

This passage is in reference to Peter, James, and John leaving their fishing business to FOLLOW Jesus. He had promised them that if they did, He would teach them to fish for the souls of men.

A-pplication:

Jesus never really told His disciples to lead anyone. He told them to be servants of everyone. You could translate the word “Shepherd” in John 21:15-17 as leadership, but certainly not to the point that we have inundated the world with the word LEADERSHIP. Jesus said to Peter, James, and John, “I’m going to teach you how to catch men and not fish.” They immediately left their business to FOLLOW Him. When I was a boy, my father would lead the song in our church, “Where He leads me I will Follow.” I was always trained as a boy, and then as a young man, to be a FOLLOWER of Jesus. I don’t think I heard a message on Leadership until the year 2000! It causes me to wonder how did we ever make it just Following Jesus? The real question for you today is, will it be “Leadership Or Followership?”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

It’s probably too late in the game for me to be a Leader. For me, I will be happy to leave it all and FOLLOW You! Amen

I have tried to articulate this to my friends for years unsuccessfully. I’m NOT a leader yet others insist that I am because I step in when asked or when it’s clear that no one else is willing. Thank you for putting this into words for me. I knew what the Spirit was speaking to my heart was correct! Blessings Pastor Rich
