Just Once A Year?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Leviticus 16:34

This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites.

O-bservation:

Once a year the high priest of Israel would enter the Holy of Holies and offer sacrifices for the Atonement of Israel’s sin. For the Israelis, it was a build up to a time of fasting, mourning, and repentance. Afterward, a great feeling and sense of relief would come upon the people.

A-pplication:

When I study the “Day of Atonement” in the Old Testament I always think, “Just Once A Year?” Certainly there were other sacrifices offered during the course of the year by the people for certain sins; however, the build up of guilt and the load of sin the people carried must have been overwhelming. I’m so grateful for Jesus. Because of His sacrifice we have an ongoing continual Atonement for our sin. We don’t have to wait for cleansing because Hebrews 4:16 tells us that we can now boldly enter into the throne room of God and make our requests. Because of Jesus, you and I can run to the presence of the Lord at any time and simply say, “Lord please cleanse me.” There isn’t a certain time that this is allowed. No! Anytime is the right time. In fact, right now can be the right time.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m so thankful that because You sacrificed Your life on my behalf I have access to You 24 hours a day! Amen
