Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

O-bservation:

In an ancient time long, long ago, Solomon the wise man spoke of the nature of man and what man has done in the past and will do in the future. I believe Solomon spoke of the basic character flaws, the impact of sin, and that what man has struggled with in the past he will continue to struggle with in the future. So that there is nothing new that man will face under the sun.

A-pplication:

First, let me say that I believe in the inerrancy of Holy Scripture. Solomon was looking through the lens of the Old Testament and it’s laws and the fact that man’s sins are repetitive in nature. Please don’t take his statement here to include all things on earth, because most of what has been learned in the history of humankind has been learned in the past 50 years or less. So if that’s what you take it to mean, “I Beg To Differ” with You. Solomon could not have been speaking of TV and the microchip and the internet and space travel. However, if you’re only interpreting the verse to mean the nature of man I would only respond that Solomon didn’t have the same messianic view as did his father David (Ps. 22). And the fact that one day Jesus would come and break the curse of sin. And if you think that Jesus isn’t new under the sun … let me remind you that Jesus created the sun.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you that you broke the nature of things when you came to this earth. Thank you that you created HOPE. And that HOPE is what gives a man a way out from all the stuff that isn’t new under the sun. Amen
