Have I Quieted Myself?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 131:2

But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.

O-bservation:

King David was a valiant warrior and leadership was his forte. However, in reading the Psalms, we know he was given to mood swings. Yet here we see that the King had found a way to quiet himself in the midst of the storm. He likened his calm and quiet state to that of a weaned child who is content.

A-pplication:

How often have you found yourself flying off the handle at the littlest thing? As time piles the years on each of us, we find ourselves with more layers of responsibility. Oftentimes, stress dictates mood swings that were never God’s intent. King David came to a point in his life where he decided that stress would no longer dictate his emotions. He determined to take ownership of his own emotions and Calmed and Quieted himself. If this moody leader did it, we can do it as well. So before another episode arises, ask the question, “Have I Quieted Myself?”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Before the day brings its worries, I’m starting early this AM to Calm and Quiet Myself. I know there are stressors out there for me today, but by Your grace I will overcome any urge to Fly off the Handle! Amen
