Give Peace a Chance

S. O. A. P

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Romans 12:18

If it is possible as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

O-bservation:

In addressing the “Followers of Jesus” at Rome, St. Paul understood the context in which they were living. The Roman Emperor Nero was crazy. He was obscene in every way and a mass murderer. In time he killed himself, but not before he watched Rome burn to the ground in AD 64. Paul understood the intensity of culture that Christians in Rome were experiencing at the time, and said … “If you have it within you be a PEACEMAKER with everyone!” (my paraphrase).

A-pplication:

Through the centuries, Christians, like our Jewish brothers and sisters, have been brutally persecuted for what we believe and who we are as people. However, we are called to be people of peace who strive for peace and indeed make peace. As a young man, I heard The Beatles sing… “All we are saying, is, give PEACE a chance.” And at that time that line resonated in my heart. I believe PEACE resonated in Paul’s heart when he said… “And the PEACE of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7). Be a PEACEMAKER!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

With your help today I want to “Give PEACE A Chance.” If it is possible as it depends on me I will live at peace with everyone. Amen
