Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Matthew 17:7
But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”
O-bservation:
The above event included the mystical “Mount of Transfiguration” account. Jesus took His inner circle of friends, Peter, James, and John, to the top of a mountain. This mountain is now called the Mount of Transfiguration. On this mountain, two figures from the past appeared to Jesus and spoke with him. The two were Elijah and Moses. Jesus was changed in such a way that He shown bright and appeared “other worldly.” Then the voice of the Father from heaven spoke, a cloud covered the place, and the three Disciples fell to the ground, shocked and terrified. At this point, Jesus simply said “Get Up!”
A-pplication:
This amazing story with Jesus’ words, “Get Up,” seems to me the very essence of the Gospel. I’m thinking of the heroin addict overwhelmed by his or her life-controlling problem. When they meet Jesus they feel no condemnation, just an affirmative, “Get Up.” What about the single mother with three children, barely able to breathe financially, and she gets the word that her position has been outsourced. Then Jesus comes by and says, “Get Up.” Or the aged Grandmother living alone on public assistance; Jesus also says, “Get Up!” And in each case, He never says get up on your own. NO. He says “Get Up” and I will help you do it! Whatever has laid you low recently, if you will listen carefully, you will hear your Savior in the distance saying … “Get Up!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I am encouraged with Your Word to “Get Up!” I know the enemy of my soul would like to defeat me by keeping me seated on my failure! I will arise and win today with Your help! Amen
