What Part Of “Do Not” Don’t You Understand?
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Jeremiah 42:19
“Remnant of Judah, the Lord has told you, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ Be sure of this: I warn you today.”
O-bservation:
Earlier, in verse 3, the military leaders of Judah had come to Jeremiah and asked him to ask the Lord what they should do. He had told them, and now once again said to them, “Do not go to Egypt!” They were instead commanded by God to stay under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and in time they would be allowed to go back to their homeland. But of course, they did not obey.
A-pplication:
I can recall as a boy, my father telling me, “Do not do such and such.” Usually, I would obey, but on other occasions, I would go ahead and do what he had said not to do. He would then come to me, and before he disciplined me would say something like, “What Part Of ‘Do Not’ Don’t You Understand?” In your context, how many times have you heard the Lord say to you, “Don’t Go To Egypt,” but you did it anyway? I know in my life it has happened on a number of occasions. Why is it that we sometimes feel like we know more than God? The truth is, we don’t! AND … we really don’t think we know more than God, it’s just that we want to do what we want to do, and for some reason we believe we’ll get away with it. But you never get away with anything when it comes to the Almighty. Here you are in a secret place this AM, and maybe you’re thinking, “Oops, I did it again!” Just right now, give it to the Lord and say, “I’m sorry, Lord put me back together again.” I assure you, He will.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me keep responding favorably to Your “Do Nots.” I know You know what’s best for me. Amen
