Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses.
This is a shocking story. It has to do with a man within the Israelite community who was found to be breaking the Sabbath by gathering wood (Num. 15:32). The people brought him to Moses, and Moses sought the Lord, and the Lord said, “Stone him to death outside of the camp.”
The Jews had what is known as the written law (Old Testament), and they had what was referred to as the oral law of the Rabbis. These laws were contained in the (Mishnah.) But this Rabbinical teaching was not published until after Jesus’ ministry on earth. However, Jesus most likely would have known about it. To be true, Jesus never broke one written law of God. He came to fulfill the law. The point of this short AM devo is that when you read this amazing story of how a man was stoned to death in the Old Testament for gathering wood on the Sabbath, “At Least You Can Understand Why” many rejected Jesus when he healed a man on the sabbath. Democrats spin the constitution to work for them and their narrative. Republicans take the same constitution and spin it to work for them with the narrative they are promoting. The Pharisees had a bad habit of spinning history to make it work for them in their quest for power. Jesus, on the other hand, said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27). To yield to Jesus, the Pharisees would have to give up their power and yield to Him as God. So the Pharisees’ continual questioning of Jesus and finally seeing Him committed to the cross was for them, holding on to religious power. It was never about the truth. It was always about power. “Watch Out For The Spin.”
Today I bring all of my “spins” to Your altar and ask that You would purify and cleanse me from all personnel quests for power and control. I’m happy to be a servant for my Savior. Amen
