This Is A Hard One

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Ecclesiastes 10:19

A feast is made for laughter, wine makes life merry, and money is the answer for everything.

King Solomon seemed to promote everything my father taught me to be wary of. Solomon said that a feast is made for laughter. Dad taught me never to overeat. Solomon said wine makes life merry. Dad taught me not to drink. Solomon said money is the answer to everything. Dad disdained money, except to give it away.

“This Is A Hard One!” Why? First of all, I believe that all Scripture is ordained by God and established by God. I believe the Bible is irrefutable. Just because I may lose in a debate with an unbeliever on a given question concerning biblical content, I will never give in on my belief in the absolute authority of God’s word. Second, “This Is A Hard One” because I love the way my father lived and died. He lived it to the end. He was happy, and a joy to be around. I’m not sure if that could be said of the wise man, Solomon. I can’t imagine my dad having a thousand lovers. Yes, I’ve been to huge feasts, and yes, I’ve been to drinking parties, and yes I need lots of money. But none of it can equal my love for my Dad or the love I have for the God he taught me to love and serve. So I will agree that this passage is part of the irrefutable Word of God, but I will take Dad’s side on how to live it out!

Dear Jesus,

First of all, Your Word is a light unto my feet, and a light unto my pathway and I thank You that I can trust Your Word completely! Thank You for giving me a father to help lead me through the Hard parts of how to interpret it! Amen
