The City (Church) Without Walls

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Zechariah 2:4b

Run, tell that young man, “Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it.”

While still relatively young, Zechariah had a vision of an angel telling another angel to run to Zechariah and tell him the day is coming when Jerusalem will have such incredible growth that it will be known as, “The City (Church) Without Walls.”

This verse came to pass to some degree upon the return of the people of God to Jerusalem after their seventy-year sojourn in Babylon. However, most theologians believe this to be an Old Testament prophecy concerning the coming Church of Jesus Christ around the world. And the Church has certainly broken through any containment that walls could provide. The growth of the Christian Church worldwide over two thousand years is uncontainable. It is seen in massive architectural designs throughout Europe and the ancient Asia Minor region of the world. These buildings represent early advances of the Church. But today the church is located in small homes everywhere. It’s represented by the underground church within the 10/40 window, where people are martyred in many cases for their Christian faith. In many places, the church is broadcast twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, by way of radio, television, and internet programming. When seen in our modern context, Zechariah’s prophecy has come to pass like no one would have ever seen coming. It truly is “The City (Church) Without Walls.”

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I am truly grateful to be a part of Zechariah’s prophetic word coming to pass. I’m blessed to be a part of Your Church around the world. Amen
