The Branch

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Isaiah 4:5
Then the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy.
O-bservation:
These words of Isaiah promoted the prophecy of the Messiah’s coming. In verse 2, the prophet called the Messiah “The Branch.” This Branch of Jehovah will become a covering over Zion. This Branch will be a refuge for all to run to, in the most heated of occasions. Zion is the Old Testament city that was the home of King David. In the New Testament, our covering is the Church, known as the Bride of Christ, until we can return to our promised Zion in New Jerusalem.
A-pplication:
All through the prophets and minor prophets of the Old Testament, Zion, the City of David, Jerusalem, is hailed as the place of refuge for God’s people. Even before the exile of Jerusalem, the prophet Joel wrote, “The Lord roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth tremble. But the Lord is a refuge for his people. And a stronghold to the sons of Israel” (Joel 3:16). Joel was saying your salvation will come if you will but return to the Lord. Zion was the covering both spiritually and physically because it was the City of God. From our great God came “The Branch.” That Branch, the Messiah, has become the head of the Church, and His Church is now the refuge and the shelter and covering for the people of the Lord. Like Zion of old, His Church today can be our refuge if we will but run to “The Branch.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’ve been running to You since the first day I met You. You have been my strong tower and my shelter, my refuge in the time of trouble. I’m always Yours! Amen
