The Bigger Need

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Mark 2:11
“I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
O-bservation:
This is the wonderful story of a paralyzed man whose friends had brought him to Jesus to be healed. They couldn’t get in the door because the place was packed with people. So they took him to the top of the roof, carved a hole in the roof, and lowered their friend on his mat in front of Jesus. Jesus looked at the man and said, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Some of the teachers of the law were incensed that Jesus acted as if He could forgive a man’s sins. So Jesus said, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” Suddenly the man was healed.
A-pplication:
All of us have needs, but the real question is, what is “The Bigger Need?” I’m certain Jesus was going to heal this man from his paralysis so that he could walk. Yet Jesus saw The Bigger Need in the man’s life. The man had a sin problem. That means he had a bad destination problem. Your eternity and mine are much more important than our present. Jesus is always concerned first with our eternal destination. Sin robs us of everlasting life. However, since Jesus is the giver of eternal life, He is also the one person who can forgive sin. There will be a day in the future when we will be on the brink of death, but The Bigger Need for eternal life will have already been taken care of because Jesus has forgiven us of sin. Always keep The Bigger Need as the most important need.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m so grateful that throughout my life You have always helped me with my personal needs. Things like sickness, finances, decisions, and family have always been connected to You in prayer. But my biggest need of forgiveness, You took care of long ago! Amen
