The BEAUTY Of Jesus
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Isaiah 53:2
He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
O-bservation:
Some seven hundred years before Jesus was born, Isaiah the prophet foretold His coming. Isaiah spoke in this passage of the appearance and outward looks of Jesus. Unlike his grandfather, David, who preceded Him by a thousand years, Jesus evidently was not a handsome man. Isaiah said, “He has no beauty or majesty that would attract people to Him and also nothing in His appearance is appealing.” As we know, Jesus was and continues to be the most compelling figure in all of human history.
A-pplication:
When I speak of “The Beauty of Jesus,” it’s obvious that I’m speaking of character qualities that reached out from His innermost being and kind of grabbed people by the heart. In this world of photoshop and countless edits in front of the camera, until we finally look as beautiful as possible, Jesus simply loved people into following Him. Today, with approximately 2.5 billion Christian believers, you’d have to say, “There’s just something about Jesus.” Every so often, someone comes along who’s inner beauty captures people’s attention way before their outward looks are even noticed. How else could you explain the demon-possessed man of Gadara falling at Jesus’ feet in the dark? Unless Jesus’ inner pull began drawing the poor man to Him before Jesus’ boat even reached the shore? Long before Jesus was born of a virgin, Isaiah saw the world-changer as a “commoner” in looks, but a “royal” with inner beauty.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m reminded once again why I follow You. I need “The Beauty of Jesus” to sweep my life again today. Amen
