That’s How God Does Things
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Acts 1:20
“For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms: ‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,’ and, ‘May another take his place of leadership.’”
O-bservation:
About a thousand years earlier, David wrote the words that St. Peter referenced in this passage. It’s found in Ps. 69:25. It’s not that David was speaking specifically to this issue, but issues like it. To think that Peter could reference that obscure passage shows that he was well versed in how to proceed with conducting the business of the coming Church.
A-pplication:
The idea that anything happens without God’s knowledge is ludicrous. Way before Jesus came to this earth, the forefathers of our faith were laying the groundwork for proper church polity to be conducted. They didn’t even know what the Church was, but they were led of the Holy Spirit. You may wonder how God does things this AM. Well, Jesus said, “Your Father knows what you have need of before you ask” (Matt. 6:8). So, in this case, the Lord was already speaking into the Apostles dilemma through the Psalmist about a thousand years before they were even born. Whatever your worry or concern or obstacle may be going forward, maybe you should just do what the word says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Ps 46-10), because He already knows what you need. And “That’s How God Does Things.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Before I was born, You knew I would be and what I’d need THIS exact day in history. Help my friend and me to know “That’s How God Does Things.” Amen
