Stay With What Works

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Chronicles 17:3a

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David before him.

O-bservation:

This passage tells us that God was with King Jehoshaphat because he followed on the same path as his FATHER David. Yet, if you recall, David had lived five generations before Jehoshaphat! Jehoshaphat’s immediate father was Asa.

A-pplication:

In the Old Testament life of Israel and Judah, whenever a new king took over from his father, if he wanted to do good and yet his immediate father had done evil, he would “Stay With What Works” by going back to his grandfather who started it all, King David. Moorings, or historical, moral guidelines, are becoming more and more difficult for people in this day and age to find. But they are there. You can find them in God’s Holy Word. They can also be found within the fellowship of a local Bible-believing church. In the New Testament, the writer tells us, “Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together” (Heb. 10:25, para.). Why? Because it’s within the fellowship of Jesus followers that we find the moral moorings we need to stay spiritually healthy. Jehoshaphat trusted in the ancient paths his father, David (5 generations removed), had established. If you wonder how you should lead your family or a corporation, I encourage you to “Stay With What Works.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You this AM that I don’t have to look back five generations to find my moral moorings today. Thank You for parents who showed me the way. Help my friend who reads this to be the way for their children to follow one day. Amen
