Pushing Back
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 5:5
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
O-bservation:
Jesus had asked Simon Peter to let him preach to the masses on the shore from Peter’s boat. Peter accommodated Jesus, and when Jesus had finished, He told Peter to push out into the deep and lower his nets for a huge haul of fish. Peter did, but not before he was guilty of “Pushing Back” on Jesus by telling Him that they had already toiled all night and not caught anything.
A-pplication:
Obviously, Peter didn’t know who Jesus was, and after he caught a large quantity of fish with Jesus looking on, he asked Jesus to forgive him. But Peter was guilty time and again, after fully knowing who Jesus was, of “Pushing Back” on the King of all Kings! Why does this happen to you and me today? Today, when Jesus asks us to do something, we actually have to “Do Something.” Few of us want to add to our “To Do” list when we already have a schedule, so instead of obeying, we find it necessary to Push Back on Jesus. But we must never forget who we’re Pushing Back on. Jesus didn’t come to make us miserable; instead, He has come that we might have life and life more abundant. Today, with God’s help, let’s decide no Pushing Back on Jesus.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
With Your help today, I will be quick to obey Your voice. For me, there will be no “Pushing Back.” Amen
