Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
And put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.
Whenever a scripture begins with a conjunction, it’s always tied to the previous passage. The wise man said earlier that when you sit to have dinner at a ruler’s home, make sure you take careful note of what is set before you. He then said, “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.” Why? A man or woman given to obesity has usually eaten himself or herself into the category known as undisciplined recklessness with the physical home of the Lord.
Certainly the wise man did not mean for people actually to kill themselves if they are thinking about overeating. He was showing the utter disregard for one’s body that gluttony causes. It’s true that “Only God Looks On The Heart.” What does that mean? Well, it means that we’d better have our hearts right before the Lord. But it also reminds us that humans look on the outward appearance. Which in turn means we only have one chance to make a first impression on people we meet. Overeating pushes people away from us, and in time, we become an island unto ourselves. That isn’t God’s will. Today, let’s get control so that the Lord can use us to bless people and not push them away.
Today I ask You to keep me reminded that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Since it’s where You have chosen to dwell in me, help me keep it fit and in order. Amen
