Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down.
Solomon said that if there is no wood for a fire, the fire will burn out. Likewise, he said if there is no gossip involved, the quarrel will quickly die down. In other words, “No Fuel No Fire.”
This is a classic case of one thing needing something else to survive. A fire needs fuel to be a fire. A flashlight needs a battery to shine. A car needs gas to run. A toaster needs electricity to toast the bread. A quarrel needs a gossip to remain a quarrel. Each illustration mentioned dealt with inanimate objects except for the last one. The others need human intervention for the intended purpose of each to perform, but the last one involves humans completely. Let’s face it, humans fight for silly reasons. And once they start a fight one of them either destroys the other or they decide to make peace. Whether it’s to conquer the other or give up the argument in the end, it’s a decision. Inanimate objects don’t make decisions. Whatever the purpose of the object, either God controls the object (i.e., the sun, the moon, the stars) or a human initiates the purpose for the object. (i.e., wood, gas, electricity). Here’s the point. Humanity has a lot to say about what happens on this side of heaven based on the Lord giving humankind a free will. So if a quarrel is happening, and someone is fueling that quarrel through continual gossip, that person can choose to stop the quarrel by doing away with the fuel. “No Fuel No Fire.”
This AM I’m asking You to help me do away with the fuel that burns things that don’t need to be lit. Amen
