Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Return, you Israelites, to the one you have so greatly revolted against.
Isaiah, the prophet at this time in Israel’s history, was the voice of God to people who were constantly wanting to be like other nations. The “other nations” were heathen and believed in idols of silver and gold. Israel, on the other hand, was unique. Israel, like followers of Jesus today, served a God who is a Spirit. Israel labored to stay on track with the Almighty God. To them, the laws of God were laborious and restrictive. They struggled to see their God, and so endeavored to build gods that had no life in them, like their neighboring counterparts. But in this passage, Isaiah speaks for God and simply says, “Please come back to Me, the one you have rebelled against.”
Let’s push this passage several thousands of years into the future to where you and I are living right now today. What does this verse say to you and me? I believe this passage is simply saying, “Look To Jesus.” This world is in a “mess of trouble.” We as nations have tried to find strength and meaning in military might, education, technology, artificial intelligence, and all things human. None of it has brought peace of mind or peace in general. Today, the world remains “shuttered in” from a pandemic that still has no cure. Our institutions have failed us, and all seems hopeless. God has a word for this world today, and for the rest of our days: “Look To Jesus.” Never has our Lord ever failed to be with us. While we have most often left Him, He has never left us. He will surely supply all of our needs, wishes, and desires, if we will but, “Look To Jesus.”
This AM, I don’t have to return to You because I’ve never left You. Certainly, there have been times I have failed You, but You alone have what I need. With my whole heart, this AM, I will “Look To Jesus.” Amen
