Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
St. Paul warned the Christians in Rome to never be overcome by evil, but instead, use the power you have been given through the Holy Spirit to overcome evil with GOOD.
As I read this passage early this AM, my heart is troubled. Today is Pentecost Sunday, but here in Miami, we have not been together in the house of God as a family since March 1st. The Covid-19 Coronavirus still lingers. What is even worse is that this past Monday, Memorial Day in the USA, Mr. George Floyd was killed by one policeman and three other officers who assisted him in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consequently, America is on fire as great cities across my country are being burned at night by riotous protesters. If anyone has a right, in my humble opinion, it’s Black Americans. However, many other Black Americans in these cities are having their businesses burned by rioters, and they are left with nothing but to clean up the burning ash. I see both sides, yet when I come to this passage, the Jesus way of approaching this challenge would be to overcome the heinous evil that was done to Mr. Floyd (by a man who was supposed to protect the public) WITH GOOD!!! Last night again was really difficult, and many people are seething with anger, but if I had one wish, it would be “I Wish They Could Read This Verse Right Now!”
For months now, we’ve been asking You to heal our world from the Coronavirus, and now THIS! However, I know that this didn’t slip by You in any way. You know what You’re doing. Please help me to know what to do as well. Amen
