I Used To Be A Lousy Guy

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 Timothy 1:13

Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.

These are the words of St. Paul, who wrote approximately half of the New Testament! A man of such unusual insight, brilliance, personal grit, and seasoned experience admits right here, “I Used To Be A Lousy Guy!”

Paul was originally named Saul. In fact, he was known as Saul of Tarsus. He was a highly educated young lawyer who quite possibly was a member of the Jewish ruling body known as the Sanhedrin. He definitely carried out the mission of gathering up people who were called Christians and having them persecuted. He even watched over the stoning of Stephen, the first Christian martyr after Jesus. Then Jesus met him on the road to Damascus. This visitation by the Lord resulted in Saul’s conversion to that of a Jesus Follower. His name was changed to Paul, and he became the “Disruptor” of religion in his day. You might call him the “Framer” of the New Testament and Church. Yet Paul never forgot where he had come from. Right here, he flat out says, “I Used To Be A Lousy Guy!” But the grace of God saved Paul. And Paul said, “I did it all in IGNORANCE and UNBELIEF.” It matters not what ugliness lies in your past. What matters most is that you have come to know the Lord. All of us have a past. Maybe not like Paul, but I can tell you this, “I Used To Be A Lousy Guy!” Thank God for Jesus.

Dear Jesus,

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! Not only that, but Thank You! Amen
