Humility Before HONOR
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Proverbs 15:33
Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.
O-bservation:
Fearing the Lord promotes godly wisdom in our lives. Solomon alludes to this truth over and over in Proverbs. Then he says that Humility comes before HONOR.
A-pplication:
There is a difference between giving and receiving HONOR. Receiving HONOR takes a long time to earn. You and I have both run into people who demanded servitude from so-called underlings who were paid to surround them, but that is not what the wisest man in the Old Testament is speaking of here. Solomon said that when you humble yourself throughout your life to those around you, genuine HONOR will in time come your way. HONOR doesn’t come in a short time. If it appears to be HONOR at a young age, it’s much more about hero worship or momentary applause from onlookers who would like to be in the same position as the person they are applauding. Real HONOR takes time to come into play. On the other hand, for you and me giving HONOR is done immediately. You and I are called to instantly HONOR anyone we come in contact with by HUMBLING ourselves in some fashion and serving them. That’s the way to give HONOR. Remember receiving HONOR is earned over a long time by humbling oneself. Giving HONOR is to be done immediately, and that also comes by humbling oneself.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I first of all HUMBLE myself before You so that I may HUMBLE myself before everyone I come in contact with today. Amen
