How Could Anyone So Wise Be That Stupid?

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 11:3

He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.

O-bservation:

These are the historical FACTS concerning Solomon’s desire for three things in his life that we know of. We know that he desired WISDOM, but the other two things he desired was SEX with lots of women and a LEGACY. Let’s see how that worked out for him.

A-pplication:

We know that because of Solomon’s initial prayer to the Lord (1 Kings 3:9), God made him the one person in the history of the world to be known universally as a person of WISDOM. But then … he did something that doesn’t seem to be very WISE. He married seven hundred women and had another three hundred mistresses. That’s a lotta SEX! That’s also a lotta CONFUSION. That’s also a lotta family DISSOCIATION. As in, “I know you’re my brother, but could you give me your name again?” In hopes of having a LEGACY, the only noted offspring from his one thousand female conjugal partners was his IDIOT SON Rehoboam, who lost his father’s kingdom to a split just a year into his reign because of his total lack of WISDOM. This causes the least intelligent one among us to ask, “How Could Anyone That Wise Be That Stupid?” St. Paul said, “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1 Cor. 10:12).

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Help me to NEVER receive a blessing from You and misuse it so that in time, it becomes a curse because of my own sin. Amen
