S-cripture:
1 Samuel 31:6
So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.
O-bservation:
This is the sad story of how King Saul’s disobedience caused the death of his three sons. Saul had disobeyed God’s command many years earlier when God had told him to destroy ALL of the Amalekites, but instead, he kept King Agag alive. Because of that rebellious decision, the Lord determined that Saul’s lineage as king would be cut off. We don’t know much about Saul’s younger two sons, but his oldest son Jonathan would have made any Father proud. He was the result of “How A Bad Father Cost A Good Son His Life.”
A-pplication:
I beg you today to forever put the idea that your choices only affect you out of your mind. Certainly, there have been times in my life when I sinned, and in so doing, I had the thought that I was the only person who would possibly be in any way hurt if I did the “THING.” The truth is the “THING” (sin) always hurts more than just the perpetrator. I doubt seriously that many years earlier, a young Saul ever thought that his disobedience against the Lord would in any way fall onto the heads of his little boys at the time, but that’s exactly what happened. Jonathan had known that the kingdom would pass to David and skip him, but his love and respect for his friend David made him willing to take a second place to David in the future. But that never happened. Instead, this is the story of “How A Bad Father Cost A Good Son His Life.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me never to forget that my choices impact the next generation. Help me make good decisions and reject the temptation from hell to disobey. Amen
