From The Mountaintop To The Valley

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Lamentations 1:1

How deserted lies the city, once so full of people! How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations! She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave.

Lamentations is a book of sorrows written by the Prophet Jeremiah concerning the fall of Jerusalem to Babylon. In the very first verse, the prophet speaks of Jerusalem’s prior greatness when he says she once was full of life and people and now lies deserted. Jerusalem was once great among the nations, but Jeremiah says this great city is nothing more than a nation of a few slave farmers now.

Jeremiah’s words were written in approximately 586 BC, after Babylon had destroyed Jerusalem and burned down Solomon’s temple. It is evident that Jerusalem at that time in history had gone from the highest mountaintop of success and influence to the lowest valley of defeat and insignificance. The Israelites had forgotten that the most important thing in life was to know God and make God known. Instead, Israel lived for its own carnal pursuits in its desire to be like every other nation. This has always been the challenge for people of God. Will we blend in with the world and be like everyone else who lives in fear and bondage, or will we be willing to stand up and stand out for the high calling of being led by Jesus? When we blend in instead of standing up our end result will be to move “From The Mountaintop To The Valley.”

Dear Jesus,

This AM I will stand up and stand out as one of Yours. I choose the Mountaintop over the Valley again today! Amen
