FATHERS
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 4:15
Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.
O-bservation:
Paul, the Apostle, was the founder of this young church in Corinth. But they evidently were taking sides as to who was really important. Was it Paul, or was it his young associate Apollos? Paul argued at one point that one had planted, and one had watered, but it was only God who gives the increase. Here, Paul is much more comfortable to be known as their “Father” in the Faith. He said, “Even if you have ten thousand guardians, you don’t have many “FATHERS.”
A-pplication:
I suppose the older I get, the more I cherish the role of being a “Father.” I have four wonderful sons that I give the Lord all the praise for. Yet, I’m speaking here of much more than my biological children. As an aging pastor, I never dreamed as a young man growing up that when I reached this stage in life, there would be so many fatherless children in this world. Paul said, “Even if you’ve got ten thousand guardians, or people telling you what to do, you still don’t have many “FATHERS.” I have pictures and vague memories of sitting on my father’s lap as a child while he would read to me. My entire life with him (he’s now in heaven) felt like sitting on his lap to be in his presence, even as a seasoned and successful adult. This AM, if you are a man reading this post, I want to remind you that this world needs “FATHERS,” and I’m talking about what Paul is saying here. Gentlemen, it’s time to step up and help younger people by filling your spiritual calling as “FATHERS.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Give me the strength to take on a bigger and better role as a spiritual Father in my world to those who need a DAD. Amen
