Crazy David

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 Samuel 21:13

So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.

This is just a piece of the story about what happened while David was running for his life from King Saul, who was trying to kill him. He had sought refuge in Philistine territory, but they talked of killing him, so David performed a show as if he had completely lost his mind in front of Achish, King Of Gath. Achish said, “The guy is crazy. Let him be.” At that point, David escaped with his life.

It’s amazing what you’ll do when you’re in trouble. Here is a man who was known in every region as the man who had killed Goliath, but now that he was running for his life from his jealous king he was seen looking like “Crazy David” instead of the giant killer. That wasn’t the only crazy thing David did in this story. He lied to the priests at Nob, saying he was on a mission from God. They helped him, and Saul had 85 of them killed because of David’s lie. What about you today? Are you being called crazy because of things you’ve done to save your own hide? Here’s my word to you today. Keep going, Jesus will see you through. He knows all about it. He comes from the Lion of the tribe of Judah. And there was a time when “The Lion” was known as “Crazy David.”

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for reminding me of this story in the Bible this AM. If “Crazy David” ended up having such a powerful, positive impact on the world, it gives me cause to believe there’s HOPE for me. Amen
